September 2017 - 1st Challenge - STREET FIGHTER (1, not 2)

Hey guys, first up is STREET FIGHTER original, the one that started a genre.

This is found on ALL setups, in MAME under the name sf.zip launched from MAME wheel.  You can jump to T and then go up, or go to Genres > Fighting and find it there.

To get this high score, I beat the game without a single continue... this is HARD because Adon is cheap and Sagat is very cheap and powerful.

That is impressive. The controls in this game make it almost unplayable in my opinion.

The controls are "Negative edge" unlike almost all SF games that came after it. This means you need to hold a button, do the move, and then let go at the end of the press.

For example the fireball.

In SF2 and onwards it is D DF F and Punch

In this game SF1, it is:
Hold Punch D DF F Release Punch


It takes some getting used to; but the special moves are insanely strong. You can win a match with 3-4 fireballs; or, if you fully land an uppercut or hurricane kick, you can win a full match with one move.

I beat Sagat by him landing right into my uppercut and left him with like no health one round. Be prepared to "sink quarters" (hit the coin button a lot) trying to defeat both fighters in Thailand: Adon and Sagat. Also of note is Birdie in England; he's usually not too bad but sometimes goes in berserk mode jumping-head butting you until you die in 3 hits (it's unblockable).

Also, guys, there are cheats on MAME that can be enabled; in sure there's a cheat for infinite health. The winner will need to provide video showing they can somewhat repeat the process... this is all for fun and while cheats can be fun to play, it's not in a mini competition like this.

Ah there are no rewards for winning so hopefully no one would cheat. I will play a few rounds when I get home though. I know that I will not be able to beat it in one credit but I will try out the negative moves, seems interesting to try out to say the least.
